The Roosevelt Room

The Roosevelt Room. Let’s talk about it. The drinks are amazing. The bar snacks are excellent. Interior design marvelous. Located in the heart of Austin, the pitch black exterior is difficult to miss. This dark, classy, and modern bar is the perfect spot for you and your creative friends to grab some drinks. Between my friend and I, we ordered seven cocktails, seven different snacks (which come with the drinks), and quite literally devoured a thirty six dollar cheese board.

The cocktails included a Zombie, Vodkadora, Lonesome Dove, Queen’s Park Swizzle, Darquri-ish, Milk Punch, Clovers Club, Pain Killer and my personal favorite, the Clover Club.

Round one

ZOMBIE
1934, Hollywood RR Tiki Rum blend, Donn’s mix, Falernum, lime, grenadine, Angostura Bitters, caramelized Absinthe, served in a skull with flamed cinnamon powder

VODKADORA
42 Below Vodka, raspberry syrup, ginger syrup, lime, soda water

Though I am an avid feminist and love to fight the stereotypes, I am a sucker for a “girly” drink. On the left is my Vodkadora which I totally recommend if you want something sweet and subtle. The vodka definitely sneaks up on you, but it’s the perfect drink to start off the night! The Zombie on the right is very showy, but don’t be fooled. There is not very much drink in the container, mostly ice and decor. The drink is nice with a little bit of spice. It wasn’t for me, but it’s worth it for the aesthetics!

Round two

LONESOME DOVE
Arette Blanco Tequila, grapefruit, lime, cinnamon syrup, vanilla, himalayan salt, rose water
QUEEN'S PARK SWIZZLE
El Dorado 5-yr Rum, Plantation O.F.T.D. Rum, mint, lime, sugar, Angostura bitters

I had the Lonesome dove which is significantly stronger than the Vodkadora, but then again it is tequila. I got the drink because of rose water, like rose water??? I had to see what it was about. I will say, it was not the magic expected. It was good, but not magical. The Queen’s Park Swizzle was okay. 10/10 for craftsmanship, but the mint and lime made the drink a bit too tart for me.

COCONUT DAIQUIRI
1899, Santiago, Cuba Plantation 3-star White Rum, lime juice, sugar, lime oils

While I wanted to take a break, my bestie was just getting started. She decided to order another while I focused on the cheeseboard. She asked for something coconut flavored, milky, sweet, with a rum base. I didn’t catch the name but here is a picture of what it looked like. I disliked the drink, but my friend loved it. So if coconut milk alcohol is your speed, why not.

Round 3

MILK PUNCH
Late 1600s, Scotland Appleton Estate Reserve Blend, Barsol Mosto Verde Pisco, Evan Williams Bonded Bourbon, Citadelle Gin, Dolin Dry Vermouth, raspberry syrup, lemon, lychee, egg white, salt tincture
CLOVER CLUB
Citadelle Gin, Dolin Dry Vermouth, raspberry syrup, lemon, lychee, egg white, salt tincture

These two drinks were my favorite of the night. We absolutely loved them. The texture, the taste, the presentation, the craftsmanship were all there and came together to create a true masterpiece. Out of all the drinks of the night I recommend the Clover Club.

PAINKILLER

1970s, JOST VAN DYKE, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS – Pusser’s Royal Navy Rum, Hamilton Pot Still Rum, pineapple, orange, coconut cream, toasted coconut, grated nutmeg

My friend was so happy with the drinks that she decided to purchase The Painkiller to go! To put it plain, it tasted like spiked eggnog. If you let it sit on your palette for a bit you can taste hints of pineapple and orange, but the nutmeg overpowers all.

EPICURE'S BOARD

Three Artisanal Cheeses and four Epicurean Meats compliments of Antonelli's, served with Crostini and accompaniments

Now let me tell you! I’m not sure if I was starving or if this cheese board was absolutely magnificent but I most definitely recommend ordering this to pair with your drinks! P.S ask them where they get their honey from!

Over all I give The Roosevelt Room an over 9/10!
