These past few weeks have taught me that life happens; it happens swiftly, relentlessly, and brutally. Getting through these past few months has been a major challenge. From helping to plan a showcase, to pledging to the Texas Sweethearts, to getting accepted to a major study abroad program on top of working and course work has jam packed my schedule. It has done me well to remember the size of one’s goals are directly proportional to the work needed to achieve it.
There tends to be a major disconnect I have recently noticed among my peers. We have this bold vision of the life we want for ourselves. The lifestyle we build on is this artificial idea we have of happiness based on social media and entertainment. We have been so caught up in mythologizing this lavish lifestyle that we forget to pursue our purpose. We forget to look at the world retrospectively, evaluate the problems we face as a collective society, and equip ourselves to fight for the issues we believe in. It seems that we have confused self love with selfishness, that we have traded our individual opinions for that of the masses, that we have labeled giving people the benefit of the doubt as gullible or easily manipulated. I’ve seen too many become comfortable with looking at life through the lens of their trauma and it drives us backwards. Faith in the goodness in others is essential for the greater good. The one thing I want you to take away from this post is to love humanity fearlessly and strive to do good for the world in anything you pursue.
Life Update
Now that I am done with my sermon of the month, I wanted to give you guys an official update on my travel life. I am officially going to Madrid, Spain for the Spring 2022 semester!!! Before I go I am having a mini girls trip to New York for New Years weekend. Tickets have been purchased and hotels are in the process of being booked. The study abroad application has been a strenuous process and I have yet to find housing. I still need to sublease my apartment and start planning my weekend trips around Europe for my time in Spain. Academically speaking, my classes have been really hard this semester, but I truly do love what I am studying so I have been working really hard. Self discipline has been critical this semester. As we reach the middle of the semester, prioritization has been key. Boundaries have had to become more firm and lines have had to be drawn.
Though this is just a mini update, I will be releasing content on the application process for study abroad including, but not limited to scholarships, housings, flights, language, and lifestyle tips. I am working on making video content to go with my blog posts so that’s definitely something that will be coming as well. Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
